It has a beach, Bellambi Beach, on the Wollongong to Thirroul Bike Track.Bellambi lies on the flat northern Illawarra coastal plain, with views of the escarpment to the west, one of note being Broker's Nose, 440 metres high. Bellambi used to be a mining town until the mines were closed in the early 1960s. The first inhabitants of Bellambi were the Cadigal people who migrated from the south and settled in the Eastern Suburbs. The area was originally inhabited by Aboriginal people and they called it Berrima, which means 'place of plenty'. In 1825 he was granted a block of land in what is now known as Bellambi. His grandson became the manager of the property in 1925 and when he died in 1946, his son took over.
