History of Bonnet Bay The name that had been proposed initially for the suburb was Kirkby. The area had a cave name bonnet, for it was bonnet shaped. Woronara River’s bay adopted this name, and in 1969, the suburb was named after it as ‘Bonnet Bay’ by the Geographical Names Board, and in the same year, the construction of house plots started. All of it was completed in 1985.
