Living in Botany Botany is a busy yet quiet neighbourhood in the south. It holds the city's principal port, featuring a wide array of shipping and freight commercial developments. Along with that, the suburb also houses a vast chemical production facility. The shopping sections in the area are dotted along Botany Road, with options ranging from local shops to convenience stores and restaurants. While the left portion is busy with the port industry, the eastern and southern parts are peaceful. Plus, a couple of parks surround the suburb, including Sir Joseph Banks Park, Booralee Park, and Garnet Jackson Reserve.

History of Botany Botany’s history stretches back to the 17th century when Captain James Cook landed within the Botany Bay territory in 1770. Joseph Banks and Daniel Solander were the botanists assigned to the ship, and this two irelessly explored the area to identify various specimens. In Cook’s journals, he referred to the bay as Sting Ray’s Harbour. Subsequently, it was replaced with Botanist Bay and later transitioned into Botany Bay.
