Overview Pagewood is a suburb located approximately 8 kilometres to the south of Sydney Central Business District (CBD), belonging to the local government area of Bayside Council. Pagewood covers an area of 3.5 square kilometres and is home to 34,496 individuals, according to the 2016 national census.
Living in Pagewood Pagewood has a mix of industrial and residential areas but is generally relaxing as tourists and residents can see vast parks. It also has a shopping centre, the Eastgardens, which houses significant retailers from the food and clothing industries. The suburb indeed has it all, including excellent public transport, which gives the residents access to Bondi Junction and the city. This suburb is also close to a few tourist attractions, such as the Maroubra beach, only a ten-minute drive.
History of Pagewood The suburb was known initially as Monash Gardens but was renamed Pagewood in 1929 in honour of Botany Council’s Mayor, Alderman Fred Page. The original plan for Pagewood was to develop it as a garden suburb, much like its neighbour town Daceyville. However, because lands after World War I were insufficient to shelter the people affected by the war, the initial plan for Pagewood got scrapped, and it was constructed to provide housing instead.
