Overview Eastlakes is a residential suburb under the local government of Bayside Council in New South Wales. History of Eastlakes In 1859, Eastlakes was one of Sydney’s primary water supply sources, which was facilitated by pumping water from the town to the Paddington reservoir. Before its name was inspired by the complex lake system in the suburb, it was called Botany Swamps. Today, some portion of the land and lakes of Eastlakes were repossessed by the state to give space for the extension of Sydney Airport and Lakes Golf Course.
