Overview Eastlakes is a residential suburb under the local government of Bayside Council in New South Wales. The central business district of Sydney is highly accessible from Eastlakes, requiring only an eight-kilometre drive to get to the southern portion of the CBD. Eastlakes is a small suburb, only covering a land area of 0.8 square kilometres. As of 2016, the inhabitants of Eastlakes count to 17,028.
Living in Eastlakes Aside from the vast lakes in Eastlakes, golf courses take up a large portion of the land area of the suburb, with a wide selection of golf courses, parks, nature reserves, lake reserves, and playgrounds. It also has one major shopping centre and another one that is currently under development. History of Eastlakes In 1859, Eastlakes was one of Sydney’s primary water supply sources, which was facilitated by pumping water from the town to the Paddington reservoir. Before its name was inspired by the complex lake system in the suburb, it was called Botany Swamps. Today, some portion of the land and lakes of Eastlakes were repossessed by the state to give space for the extension of Sydney Airport and Lakes Golf Course.
