Overview
Located in the far northeastern corner of NSW, Byron Bay is a famous beachside town. The suburb is situated 772 kilometres north of Sydney, with Cape Byron as the adjacent area. It is the largest town of Byron Shire and had a population of 11770 as per the 2016 census.

History of Byron Bay
Byron Bay is located on unceded land of the Bundjalung Nation and people who have lived there for at least 22,000 years were Arakwal, Minjungbal, and the Widjabul. Most of the land and people were created by Nguthungulli that is now called Julian Rocks. Lieutenant James Cook re-named Cape Bryon in 1770 after a fellow sailor John Byron. The first industry in the suburb was cedar logging from the Australian red cedar.
