History of Ewingsdale The Ewingsdale suburb was named after Thomas Thomson Ewing, who donated the school's land. The school site was initially rented for a small price, but in 1909, the Department of Public Instruction purchased the freehold from Ewing. For many years, Ewing was closely identified with the Richmond River valley, first as a surveyor and then a politician.
