Overview Cairns North is a suburb snugged along the coast of the Cairns region in Queensland. From the name itself, this locality sits above Cairns and is bounded by Edge Hill, Aeroglen, and Manunda. Meanwhile, the Mount Whitfield Conservation Park is positioned on the northwest section while the Captain Cook Highway goes through the centre, splitting the expanse into eastern and western parts. Lily Creek acts as the boundary between the eastern suburbs.
Living in Cairns North A thriving community, Cairns North lies on a flat land above sea level. Because of its coastal location, the suburb is popular among tourists. According, it offers both permanent residential developments as well as holiday accommodations. There are plenty of commercial buildings around, including several community amenities such as a hospital, public health centre, mental health facility, cemetery, playground, parks, and more. Most of the shops and restaurants are positioned near the coast.
History of Cairns North Cairns North settles at the location of the Yidinji traditional community. The oldest school in the suburb is the Edge Hill State School, which was opened in 1917. The institution was later renamed Cairns North State School and was eventually shut down in 2004. Other significant schools in the area include Cairns State High School (1924) and Mother of Good Counsel School (1936). Whilst the locality encompasses a beach, there were issues about the marine stingers off the coast. Henceforth, the Tobruk Memorial swimming pool was established.
