History of Cannonvale Cannonvale was named after Richard Cannon, the boat's Assistant Surgeon, by George Strong Nares, captain of HMS Salamander, in 1866. In 1904 underneath Cannonvale, sold municipal allocations along the shore on Pioneers Bay at the live auction. The locals, though, chose to identify it as Cannon Valley Beach. The post office was restored at Cannonvale Beach in 1947 after being dubbed Deauville in 1930. This town is currently known as Cannonvale, but the adjacent region retains the title Cannon Valley.
