History of Chatswood
Before the arrival of the Europeans, Chatswood was already inhabited by the Cammeraygal. These people have been in the territory 35,000 to 50,000 years ago. The name Chatswood was coined from “Chattie” and wood. Chattie is the moniker of Charlotte Harnett, the wife of former Willoughby mayor.
On the other hand, wood is derived from the area’s originally forested sections. In 1876, the residential establishment of the suburb began and eventually expanded throughout the region. The area’s public transport was established in 1900. Subsequently, it was proclaimed as a town centre back in 1983 and then in 1989.
