History Chisholm is a suburb in the Canberra, Australia district of Tuggeranong, named after Caroline Chisholm. It was gazetted on 5 August 1975, and streets are named after notable women. Chisholm has had a long History of human settlement. The area was first occupied by the Ngunnawal people before European settlement, and there are still aboriginal sites there today. There are several cultural heritage sites listed on the ACT Heritage Register, including the Chisholm Homestead, which has been owned by many different families. It's now used as an outdoor education centre and function centre.In 1837, this settlement became an important stopping point for travellers because it was one of the first places to have refreshments and accommodations that were available to them along the way.The town was originally named "Chisholm's Springs" but it eventually became known as Chisholm because of its founder, Edward Charles Johnston.
