A few years later, William Oliver arrived at the headland then called Cape’s Flat and bought 66 acres. He donated an acre of land to the Wesleyan Church, and a chapel was built there in 1872. Since then, the place came to be known as Church Point. Though the chapel was demolished in 1932, the name continues to be there.
