It is located 18 kilometres southeast of the Central Business District in Melbourne. Clarinda is neighbouring the following suburbs: Oakleigh South, Heatherton, Clayton, Clayton South, and Dingley Village. As of the 2016 census, the population of Clarinda was 20,122, with its median age being 36 years old.

History of Clarinda The area of Clarinda was once a coastal heathland, first occupied by John O’Shannessy during the early 1840s. O’Shannessy had a squatting license for the area around present-day suburbs Clarinda, Clayton South, Dingley, and Heatherton, which he later passed on to John and Richard King in 1846. Thus, the transformation of the area began.
