It is located 18 kilometres southeast of the Central Business District in Melbourne. History of Clarinda The area of Clarinda was once a coastal heathland, first occupied by John O’Shannessy during the early 1840s. O’Shannessy had a squatting license for the area around present-day suburbs Clarinda, Clayton South, Dingley, and Heatherton, which he later passed on to John and Richard King in 1846. Thus, the transformation of the area began.
