Overview Coombabah is a suburb in the City of Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia. Paradise Point and Hope Island surround it in the North, Runaway Bay and Biggera Waters to the East, Helensvale in the West, and Arundel in the South. As per the 2016 population census, Coombabah has 10,338 people.
Living in Coombabah Coombabah is a significant wetland in Australia and is known for the Coombabah Lake Conservation Park located in the suburban region of the Gold Coast. Coombabah is also popular for birds as over 150 species use the area, and Bird Observation and Conservation Australia organize guided bird watching tours. The site is also known for activities like bushwalking, canoeing, and walking trails.
History of Coombabah Coombabah took its name from Coombabah Lake and Coombabah Creek. The lake and creek are named using the Bundjalung language, Ngaraangbal dialect words. In July 1887, Coombabah Provisional School opened as a special school. This was intended for the kids of parents working in Public Works in the area. Later in January 1889, the school was moved to Acrobat Creek and re-opened as Acrobat Creek Provisional School. In 1981, Coombabah State School opened, and in 1986, Coombabah State High School was established.
