Overview Cootamundra is a popular suburb in the South West Slopes region of New South Wales, Australia. The suburb lies within the Cootamundra Gundagai Regional Council and is located on the Olympic Highway between Junee and Cowra. As surveyed in the 2016 population census, 6,782 people called it home.
Living in Cootamundra Cootamundra is a picturesque country suburb and is best known for being the birthplace of Sir Donald Bradman, the famous cricketer. History of Cootamundra Cootamundra was inhabited by the tribe of Wiradjuri, who occupied the area where present-day town exists. It is believed that the town’s name was inspired by the word guudhamang, which means turtle. On 9 August 1861, the suburb was incorporated as a township, and in early 1862, the first settlers stepped in. The suburb gained popularity when the gold was discovered during the 1860s but later became a prosperous agricultural community.
