History of Dicky Beach It is believed that the name of Dicky Beach was from the SS Dicky (226 gross tons) that became aground in severe waves on February 12, 1893. The ship was refloated, but powerful waves twisted it around and back onto the beach. A kerosene light toppled and set fire to the ship. According to the Sunshine Coast Regional Council, scattered sand from the wreckage made swimming dangerous in 2014. The wreck was moved away from the shore; others will be placed into a foreshore park with an educational exhibit, while others will be preserved and kept.
