Overview Diggers Rest is a suburb of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, located 33 kilometres northwest of Melbourne’s Central Business District. According to the 2016 census, the population of the suburb was recorded as 2,763 people.

Also, there are three large recreation reserves and sporting groups. Sunbury Rock Festival is held between Sunbury and Diggers Rest on a 600-acre private farm along Jacksons Creek. The property is popular as ‘Duncan’s Farm’ and owned by farmer George Duncan. Other interesting spots in the suburb include the Holden Flora and Fauna Reserve, a Slovenian social club, Animal Land Children’s Farm and SPSK Jadran. There is also a Scout Group that consists of Cub Scouts and Scouts. The suburb is connected with a railway station and bus routes.
History of Diggers Rest The development in the area of Diggers Rest started with the establishment of the Post Office in 1860 and a stopping place on the road to the Bendigo goldfields. Further growth of the town started during the 1870s and 1880s with the commencement of a general store, mechanics institute, weigh-bridge, and a chaff mill. In 1854, the Diggers Rest Hotel was built and became a popular stopping place on the route to the goldfields. However, it was damaged by fire in 2012. Earlier, the area was famous for being the location of the first controlled powered flight of an aeroplane undertaken in Australia.
