Overview Doveton is a residential area located 31 kilometres from the central business district of Melbourne. The suburb is north of the Monash Freeway, south of the Princes Highway, east of Eumemmerring Creek, and west of Dandenong Creek and Power Road. A 2016 census revealed that Doveton had 11,305 residents during that year.

History of Doveton In the 1830s, Doveton initially belonged to the pastoral run in Eumemmerring before it was recognised as a town of its own and named Doveton after the late Captain John Doveton. The township was established in the mid-1950s as a low-cost housing project by the State Housing Commission. The population grew from then, with residential homes summing up to 1,500 by 1962.
