History of East Ryde East Ryde was formerly known as North Ryde Dress Circle Estate. While it was part of North Ryde, the area had an estate named Dress Circle built in the 1960s. In 1804, the suburb was reserved as an additional grazing ground for early settlers. But soon, it became a sanctuary for escaped convicts. In 1874, the land in East Ryde was auctioned to raise money to fund infrastructure projects. Tramlines reached the area in 1900. Following a development plan, hundreds of houses came up in the place in the 1960s.
