History of North Ryde The earliest reference to North Ryde appears is documented in the district's first public school's records. Primarily a farming area till 1897, North Ryde was an extension of neighbouring Ryde. Indigenous Australians were the first inhabitants of the area. Many of the Aboriginal inhabitants died after coming into contact with outsiders that invaded the area. A small population of the aboriginals is still inhabiting the Wallumatta Nature Reserve, which is an undisturbed area.
It is the third oldest settlement. During World War II, North Ryde turned into an army base. After the war, the area remained underdeveloped for a long time. It was only in the 1950s that the area underwent major developments.
