Overview Edmonton is a suburb and town that belongs to the Cairns Region in Queensland, Australia. This is a large town with a total land area of 20.5 square kilometres and an elevation of 16.8 metres.
Edmonton is situated 13.7 km south-southwest of Cairns CBD and 1,666 km northwest of Brisbane. Edmonton is surrounded by a few suburbs such as Bentley Park, White Rock, Portsmith, Wrights Creek, Mount Peter, and Lamb Range.
Living in Edmonton Edmonton is a suburb located along the Bruce Highway that links it to the city centre. It is a family-friendly suburb with all the basic amenities that residents can enjoy for a comfortable and high quality of life. It is set against a mountain backdrop and is home to a mid-sized recreational area and water park attraction called Sugarworld. Before the water park was developed, the land was used as a sugar mill. There are plenty of schools in the suburb although it does not have a secondary school.
History of Edmonton The traditional Aboriginal tribe of Yidinji initially inhabited Edmonton. The suburb was previously known as Hambledon and then changed to Hambledon Junction. This area was also used for sugarcane plantations.
