History of Euroa Euroa name was derived from an Aboriginal word which means ‘joyful’. In 1836, Major T.L. Mitchell camped on the banks of the Seven Creeks at Euroa. The township was settled in 1854 with the establishment of the Post Office. The area came into the limelight when the National Bank was robbed in 1878 by Ned Kelly. The town began to grow with the traffic generated by the gold rush.
