It is located 22 km west of the Sydney central business district and lies in the local government area of the City of Fairfield. It is part of the Greater Western Sydney region. According to the 2016 census, Fairfield East had a population of 5,273 people.

History of Fairfield East Fairfield East derives its name from its neighbour Fairfield named after Captain John Horsley’s family estate. The Cabrogal clan of the Dharug people used to live in the area around Fairfield East before colonization. In the early 19th century, British settlers moved into the suburb and used most of the land for farming. The location was part of two large properties by the 1870s, Orchardleigh in the North and Mark Lodge in the South. In 1876, Orchardleigh was subdivided for housing and transformed from farmland to suburb in 1885. By the 1950s, the suburb officially becomes Fairfield East.
