History of Fawkner Fawkner used to be a part of Box Forest, an area named by one of the first settlers in Melbourne, John Pascoe Fawkner. Later on, in 1867, a portion of the land owned by Fawkner was sold to John Jukes. The latter named his part of the land Fawkner in honour of the first owner. On October 8, 1889, a railway line was developed in Fawkner, while in December 1906, a public cemetery was opened, and these two opened the gates for residential development in the area.
