Overview Gembrook is a suburb in Victoria, Australia and had a recorded population of 2,350 people (2016 census). It is surrounded by the localities of Nangana, Hoddles Creek, Cockatoo, Pakenham Upper, and Nar Nar Goon North. Gembrook is about 54 kilometres from the Melbourne central business district. It is within the LGA of the Shire of Cardinia.

History of Gembrook Gembrook was named after small gems found in watercourses and small creeks in the area. Settlement in Gembrook started in 1873 because of timber and farming, the area being suitable for orchards and dairy. The Gembrook Post Office opened in 1877.
