History Glenunga is a suburb of Adelaide, South Australia. It was once known as Knoxville and was mostly rural. In 1842, it became home to the first European settlers who took up farming. The area had wheat which was awarded first prize in the Royal Adelaide Show. Slaughterhouses were established in the 19th century and exported overseas and provided half of Adelaide's lamb requirements. Coach companies established here in the 1870s and 1880s and the number of horses grazing land reached 1,000. Streets were named by residents but one street was named after an Aboriginal word meaning sun - "Allinga". A church was established in 1926 and a larger church (St Stephen) built in 1956 and dedicated to St Stephen.
