History of Goondiwindi Goondiwindi was in the domain of the Bigambul people when Europeans arrived there in 1827. The 1840s witnessed strong resistance from the indigenous people as the Gundi Windi pastoral station took shape. By 1850, there was an expansion of farming activities. A post office came up in 1860, and a school was established in 1864. Goondiwindi became a municipality in 1888 and got a place on the railway map in 1908. The erstwhile inter-state custom point soon grew into a major transport and agricultural hub. In 2008, it was integrated with Waggamba and Inglewood shires to form the Goondiwindi Region local government.
