Overview Gosford is considered the third-largest urban area in New South Wales. It is located at the north end of Brisbane Water, 10 kilometres above sea level and 77 kilometres at the north of Sydney through the Newcastle Freeway and Pacific Highway. Gosford, covering an area of 1,029 square kilometres, is the Central Coast Region’s commercial and administrative centre. It is home to 67,195 individuals, according to the 2016 national census.

Governor Gipps named the town, and his inspiration was Archibald Acheson, the 2nd Earl of Gosford.
