Overview Gowrie Junction is a suburb that lodges within the rural region of Toowoomba. It is stationed north of the busy Toowoomba city and is cornered by the neighbourhoods of Glencoe, Kingsthorpe, Gowrie Mountain, Charlton, Cotswold Hills, Cranley, Birnam, and Cawdor. The Toowoomba Second Range Crossing, or Toowoomba Bypass, travels over the southern section. On the other hand, the Western railway line navigates through the Gowrie railway station.

Living in Gowrie Junction The suburb is divided into northern and southern sections, with the Gowrie Creek navigating around the expanse. Most of the shops are stationed at Gowrie Lilyvale Road and Old Homebush Road. This is also where the Mcmahon Park and Gowrie Junction Progress Hall are located. Another recreational spot in the community is the Glen Gowrie Environmental Park. There is only one school around, which is the Gowrie State School.

History of Gowrie Junction The locality was named after the Gowrie pastoral station administered by Frederick Isaac and Henry Hughes. The term was believed to be a modification of an Aboriginal word―cowardie―which means freshwater mussel or Gowrie Creek itself. Meanwhile, the line “Junction” derived from the Gowrie Junction railway station (currently Gowrie railway station) operated between 1871 and 1915. The Gowrie Junction Post Office was inaugurated in the subsequent years, along with the Gowrie Junction State School and St John’s Anglican Church. More structures were constructed in the 18th century, including the Gowrie Colliery public hall, which was used for the interest of the locals.
