Overview Gracemere is a town and locality belonging to the Rockhampton region of Queensland. It is 635 km from Brisbane and 11 km from Rockhampton. The town itself measures approximately 76 square kilometres in land area. As of the 2016 census, its population is 11,315.
Living in Gracemere Known as the Beef Capital of Australia, Gracemere is a vibrant townhome to the Southern Hemisphere’s largest sale yards. These sale yards are known to have their own livestock selling facilities. It is also located right at the heart of the cattle industry in Australia. This rural town is also known as a dormitory town due to its proximity to Rockhampton.
The town is home to the heritage-listed site Gracemere Homestead that is located north of the Capricorn Highway. History of Gracemere The town was named after the Gracemere pastoral station established by the pioneer settlers in this town (in 1855). Its name was changed from Farris to Gracemere to honour the wife of one of these pioneers.
