Living in Bouldercombe Besides mining, Bouldercombe was also an area for dairying and orcharding in Rockhampton. Citrus orchards could still be found in the town, while dairying ended in the area in the late 1940s. Also, with the high demand for building materials in the region, brickworks was established in the town in 1976.

History of Bouldercombe The town of Bouldercombe was established in 1865 when gold was discovered at the nearby Crocodile Creek and Gavial Creek. At the height of the gold rush, over 2,000 miners lived in the town.
Initially, the town was called Crocodile after the creek.
In 1871, the Crocodile Creek Provisional School opened, which later on closed and re-opened in 1881. Nine years later, the school was renamed Bouldercombe State School.
After the gold rush in 1876, the town’s population sharply declined but rose again in 1897 after gold was found in the nearby Mount Usher.
