Overview Grasstree Beach is a picturesque coastal locality in the Mackay Region of Queensland. It is home to 745 residents, as per the 2016 census. The suburbs neighbouring Grasstree Beach are Alligator Creek, Hay Point, Sarina, Sarina Beach, and Campwin beach. The Coral Sea is located in its eastern and southern parts.
Living in Grasstree Beach Grasstree Beach in the town’s eastern side is known to be one of the most beautiful beaches in the Mackay Region. The beach here is shallow and is a favourite swimming spot for locals and visitors alike.
Near the beach is a large grassy area where basic amenities are found, such as public toilets, tables for picnics, and a children’s playground. Fishing either by boat or straight off the beach is another popular activity here.
Also along the beach is a restaurant and a convenience store. A little north near the shore is a local hair salon.

History of Grasstree Beach The town’s name first appeared in a survey plan in 1891. The Grass Tree Provisional School was established in the area; however, it closed in 1899. The school was then re-opened in 1901 but was permanently closed four years after due to the low number of enrollees.
