Overview Sarina is a rural, suburban seaside area located in Queensland under the local government area of the MacKay Region. Sarina is located in northern Queensland, 34 kilometres south of Mackay and 190 kilometres north of Rockhampton. The Bruce Highway and the North Coast railway line travel through the area. Sarina has a total land area of 250.7 square kilometres and a population of 8,139 as of 2016.

The Yuwibara linguistic area comprises the Mackay Region environment. Sarina was previously known as 'Plane Creek' but was renamed after the Greek legendary enchantress Sarina by surveyor William Charles Borlase Wilson before 1882.
