Overview About 40 km from Sydney’s CBD, Green Valley is a part of the Liverpool city council. The suburb forms the western fringe of the Greater Western Sydney area. It has Heckenberg and Busby to its east, Hinchinbrook to the south, Cecil Hills and Elizabeth Hills to the west and Bonnyrigg Heights to its north. It is a reasonably large suburb with 12,516 residents recorded at the 2016 census.
Living in Green Valley The suburb sits close to Liverpool, Bankstown and Paramatta, making it strategically located for professionals and families. While residents find it affordable, they have easy access to major commercial centres in the Sydney area. The M7 highway runs parallel to its western boundary providing a quick link to M4 and M5 highways. It has shopping centres, schools, good transport facilities and excellent civic amenities.
History of Green Valley The Darug-speaking Cabrogal natives originally inhabited the place. After Liverpool city came into existence, the area was allotted to many European settlers, who set up farms there. Revenue records named the area to Liverpool’s northwest as Green Valley, as it covered a large tract of the eucalyptus forest. By 1862, it had the first school and other civic amenities. Green Valley was selected for Australia’s largest housing project, which came up between 1961 and 1965. The Housing Commission built 7,464 units, and over 25,000 people lived there. The 1970s saw Miller, Busby and other areas becoming separate suburbs.
