According to the census, Cecil Hills is 38 km west of Sydney's commercial district with a population of 34,865. History of Cecil Hills Throughout 1817, John Wylde, as the New South Wales judge-advocate, was awarded 2,000 hectares within the Parish of Cabramatta. He then gave this area the name "Cecil Hills" based on the property he owned in Chestnut, Hertfordshire. However, he could only live in this area for a short period since he had to leave after becoming the Chief Justice of the Cape of Good Hope in Southern Africa. On the other hand, Wylde's wife, Elizabeth, stayed and handled the land till her demise in 1864. The property was farmland until around the 1980s when it was developed for residential use.
