History Abbotsbury is a suburb of Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. It is located 39 kilometres west of the Sydney central business district in the local government area of the City of Fairfield. Abbotsbury is part of the Greater Western Sydney region. The suburb was named after Major Edward Abbott who arrived in Australia in 1790. Canadian born, Abbott arrived in New South Wales in 1790 and his estate remained intact until the late 19th century when it was subdivided into small farms. The name for the suburb was approved in 1991. Most of the suburb's estates were built in the late 1980s and early 1990s, although a few acres of undeveloped land in the north-west area was subdivided and developed in the early 2010s. The western border of the suburb is delineated by a line of pine trees, which gives privacy to the homes backing onto the farmlands.
