Living in Greenmount One of the most known establishments in the town is the Greenmount Homestead. It is a heritage-listed structure designed by William Skyes and built by Arthur Carter & Co in 1915.

History of Greenmount John Mackay, the first British national to explore the area, leased a pastoral land that he named Greenmount. To meet the government’s requirement that the run must have stock within nine months, Mackay partnered with James Starr, a squatter from the New England district. Around 1,200 cattle were on the run by January of 1862. Unfortunately, Starr became insolvent, which resulted in a forced sale of the said property in 1863.
