The suburb is home to one of the earliest shopping centres of Canberra, the Manuka Shopping Center. As of the 2016 census, the population of this suburb was 4,575.

The name Griffith was announced as a division name on 20th September 1928 to honour Sir Samuel Griffith, a former Chief Justice of the Queensland Supreme Court and a former Premier of Queensland. Until today, Griffith has maintained its attractiveness, greenery and provides a safe environment for the residents.
