Overview Barton is a mid-sized suburb in Canberra. Australian Capital Territory (ACT). It is neighbored by the Forrest and Kingston suburbs. As of the 2016 census, the population of Barton was 1,439.
Living in Barton Barton consists of many modern design houses. There are many apartment buildings here. Barton is constricted in space as the Government and National institutes take up a lot of areas, leaving little room for commercial sites. Therefore only a few shops can be seen here.
The suburb is also home to two famous hotels, The Hotel Kurrajong and Brassey Hotel. History of Barton The construction of Barton began in 1922. The name for this suburb was chosen in honour of the first Prime Minister of Australia, Sir Edmund Barton, in 1928, and the streets were named after Governors. The suburb is home to many heritage-listed sites, such as the Barton Housing Precinct, The Brassey Hotel, the Hotel Kurrajong, Telopea Park, and the Telopea Park School.
