Overview Hamilton is a town positioned in the southwest portion of Victoria, Australia. Living in Hamilton Hamilton is popularly known as the world’s wool capital because of its historical roots that link to sheep grazing. Even up to now, this industry is still relevant. History of Hamilton Hamilton's area was part of the three traditional tribal terrains of Gunditjmara, Tjapwurong, and Bunganditj. In 1836, the area was discovered by Major Thomas Mitchell, who became the first European to go across the expanse. Three years later, Charles Wedge and his brothers reached the place and eventually initiated “The Grange” sheep station. The town’s formal declaration as a township happened in 1851.
