History of Horsley Lieutenant William Frederick Weston acquired Horsley by way of a pledge in 1818. He originally named the land ‘West Horsley’ following the name of his first home in Surrey. When Weston died at 33, his wife remarried Thomas Williamson, and their daughters inherited the land. Then, West Horsley was separated into two in 1848; the Western portion was known as Horsley, and the eastern was known as West Horsley. John Lindsay bought the two lands in 1876 and 1881, respectively, and since then, the whole property has become Horsley.
More issues emerged regarding the ownership of Horsley beginning Lindsay’s death; the land was divided and further subdivided and was sold for public housing while a large portion was being privately developed. It was later expanded as part of the development of West Dapto as a residential area.
