Overview Huskisson is a suburb in Shoalhaven, New South Wales, Australia. It is located 24 km southeast of Nowra alongside Currambene Creek, which also serves as an anchorage and fishing port. The suburb is bounded by Moona Moona Creek in the South, Currambene Creek in the North, Jervis Bay National Park in the West, and the Jervis Bay shoreline in the East. In the 2016 census, the population was recorded as 786 people.

Living in Huskisson Huskisson became a holiday destination by the 1890s when the Dent Family opened the Jervis Bay Hotel. They also operated several guesthouses on the beachfront. The suburb also has many heritage-listed sites, including MV Lady Denman, located on Dent Street. As far as the services and facilities are concerned, the suburb has a post office, a school, a telephone exchange, and other essential facilities. Today, it has become the bustling hub of Jervis Bay, with many attractions, boutique stores, and eateries. The suburb is ideal for families with kids, singles, retirees, and professionals.

History of Huskisson A group of the Yuin inhabited Huskisson, and ‘the Jervis Bay tribe’ lived on the bank of Currambene Creek. This tribe was also known as the Wandandian people, and they spoke the Dharamba language. The Dhurga and Thurawal languages play an essential role in the suburb’s history. As far as the origin of Huskisson is concerned, it dates to the early 1840s. The settlement began in the land south of Moona Moona Creek to establish a seaport and terminus in South Huskisson. South Huskisson was a remote town and owned by Edward Deas Thompson. However, the area began to develop in the early 1860s when it became a prominent site of shipbuilding.
