Jamberoo sits on a valley created by the Minnamurra River and swamps. History of Jamberoo In the Aboriginal language, Jamberoo means “track”, and the place is named so because of numerous trails and tracks dotting the valley. The Europeans settled in the area in the early 1820s to exploit timber from its rainforests. Though William Davis was the first to buy land in Jamberoo in 1821, Michael Hyam set up the Jamberoo village in 1841. Australia’s first co-operative butter factory was established in Jamberoo in 1884. The town became a municipality in 1890.
