History of Junortoun The suburb of Junortoun was originally named Homebush after the Homebush Estate (owned by the Lazarus family) and the Homebush Hotel that is across the Farmers Arms Hotel at Junortoun.
The suburb was renamed Junortoun in 1912 to avoid confusing it with Homebush, New South Wales. Samuel Lazarus suggested that it be named after his wife, Mary Junor, but it was rejected because it was too similar to "Junee," New South Wales. It was later decided that "toun" would be added to "Junor." The Dja Dja Warrung people were the original inhabitants of this suburb.
