History of Karana Downs A real estate developer gave the name Karana Downs. It was a part of Mount Crosby, which was explored by the Europeans as early as 1824. Scattered homesteads gave way to residential settlements after the Mount Crosby water supply plan started in 1893. Tram services reached the area in 1913, expanding the settlements further. During the 1970s, the site underwent land subdivisions and the area to the east was named Karana Downs in 1975. In 1998, Karana Downs was separated from Ipswich City and was put under the Brisbane City Council.
