Neighbouring Kilcoy are the suburbs of Sheep Station Creek, Winya, and Woolmar. As per the 2016 census, Kilcoy has a population of 1,898.

History of Kilcoy It is recognised that the original inhabitants of the region where Kilcoy is located are the Jinibara Aboriginal group. The town was the heartland of the Jinibara people. Kilcoy was known as “Bumgur” in its early years, which means “blue cod”.

It was around 1841 when the first European settlers arrived in the area. Brothers Evan and Colin Mackenzi, who came from Kilcoy, Scotland, took up land here to graze sheep. It was them who renamed the area after their hometown.
