Overview Woolmar is a rural locality in the Somerset Region of Queensland, Australia. It is neighboured by the following suburbs: Harlin, Gregors Creek, Kilcoy, Winya, and Sheep Station Creek. As of the 2016 census, the population of Woolmar was 4,063.
Living in Woolmar Woolmar is a place with an authentic country feel to it. The community here is friendly and tight-knit. The median age in Woolmar is 42 years, which is five years above the Australian average of thirty-seven. With little development, the fields are empty, and many open spaces surround the houses. Woolmar is home to the Kilcoy Showgrounds, a popular low-cost caravanning and camping option for travellers in the Somerset Region. There are no shops or schools in Woolmar, and the residents have to visit the neighbouring locality of Kilcoy for these amenities.
History of Woolmar Early settlement in Woolmar dates back to 1894. However, the establishment of railway lines in Kilcoy in 1913 led to the locality seeing development in areas all around it. Thus, began the proper development of Woolmar, thanks to the boom of the Timber Industry and the opening of railway lines in the neighbouring town of Kilcoy. Woolmar was a place for the labourers to settle down. The Woolmar Provisional State School opened on 8 March 1894 and became the Woolmar State School on 1 January 1909. Due to a low number of students, it was temporarily closed in 1931 and 1940 and closed permanently on 14 April 1941.
