History of Kirribilli The name Kirribilli is derived from an Aboriginal word Kiarabilli and it means ‘good fishing spot’. There’s also a theory that says that Kirribilli is an adaption of ‘Carabella’ and given by a colonist James Milson to his first house. The area was first formed in the vicinity of Jeffrey Street and was largely covered in native bush. The land was cleared bit by bit and experienced the first construction of residences during the 1840s.
