History of Kyle Bay Kyle Bay derived its name from the bay on the Georges Rivers’ northern shore. It was named after Robert Kyle (or Coile), a local shipbuilder. The land around the suburb belonged to Crown, who granted it to Robert Kyle and James Merriman in 1853. They were also honoured by naming Kyle Parade and Merriman Street after their names. As far as the historical presence is concerned, Legacy House is a historic estate located on Kyle Bay’s eastern shore.
