History of Launching Place Launching Place is located along the Warburton Highway between Woori Yallock and Yarra Junction. Launching Place is thought to be called from a location on the Yarra River where fresh-cut logs were "launched" into the river to be drifted down to a sawmill in Melbourne. From 1901 to 1965, Launching Place was served by a railway station located on the Warburton line. On 12 July 1865, a post office was opened and was replaced by one at Hoddles Creek in 1869. However, it reopened again on 1 September 1880 but closed in 1994.
